Food Intolerance Doesn't Have To Rule Your Life
Does drinking a glass of milk cause you stomach to hurt? Have you eaten something, and later felt nauseous? Are there specific foods or beverages that cause you to feel sick? Many people share these symptoms with you. There is a condition called food intolerance, and millions suffer from it. You too may have this condition.
When your body is not able to digest some particular type of food it is termed as food intolerance. Nearly 10% of Americans are intolerant to milk. It can be found in infants also who are intolerant to milk or some other food substance since birth. Or it can develop at any age. Food intolerance has been found to be permanent in some cases. But generally it comes and goes depending on the day.
How do you know if you are suffering from food intolerance? The symptoms vary widely, and two people with the same intolerance may have completely different symptoms. Some of the most common symptoms are headache, nausea, abdominal discomfort, fatigue, gas, diarrhea, and sore throat. These symptoms can be extremely unpleasant and can lead to long-term suffering and ill health.
These symptoms should not be confused with the symptoms of food allergies, which can include all of the above and may also include skin hives, itching, and swelling, vomiting, wheezing, swollen lips, and swelling of the throat. These reactions will occur immediately after eating the offending food and may be serious. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical treatment immediately because they may be life-threatening.
The difference between intolerance and allergy is a small one, and sometimes they are tough to tell apart. You may want to have allergy testing done by an allergist if you are uncertain, to determine which substances you are allergic to and which ones your body simply cannot tolerate. Managing food intolerance starts by ruling out the effects of allergies.
Once you know that you are intolerant to specific foods, how do you adjust your nutrition? You will first need to remove that item from your diet. Make sure to avoid items that have your intolerance hidden, as it can still trigger your sensitivities. You should feel a lot better once the food has been eliminated from your diet.
There is good news for people who have discomfort from dairy products, even though it is hard for many to eradicate from their diets. Few people are completely lactose intolerant and will be able to east certain dairy products without pain or symptoms. Some forms that are well-tolerated are hard cheeses and yogurt, but to really see what is possible, take about 14 days with no dairy at all, and then slowly try one type at a time to see what is possible to keep dairy in some form part of what you eat.
Are there specific foods or beverages that cause you to feel sick? Many people share these symptoms with you. There is a condition called food intolerance, and millions suffer from it. There are many but the most common ones are abdominal discomfort, headache, fatigues and throat pain. No two people with the same intolerance experience the same symptoms. Food allergy symptoms occur as you are eating the food to which you are allergic. Food allergies can be life threatening, so if you have symptoms of food allergies, you need to seek immediate medical treatment and allergy testing.
